Full details of the categories and the judging criteria are given on the entry form, which will be available from this site in early March. In the meanwhile, some indication of the requirements are shown on the 2009 entry form which may be downloaded from this site now (for guidance only).
The closing date for entries is 6pm on Thursday 15 April 2010. There is no additional time allowed for late entries.
Entrants are reminded that the BCI Awards are specifically not a design competition. The judging criteria for all categories of the Awards focus on client satisfaction and all-round excellence in the delivery of projects and their benefits. Although excellence in design is a factor, entries must provide information reflecting the breadth of the judging criteria as indicated on the entry form. Each year, entries for excellent projects fail to reach the short list because the entry does not provide the necessary breadth of information for the judges.
Each entry may be nominated for one or more categories according to its size and/or type as explained on the entry form. (Hint: If you wish the judges to focus on one or more particular aspects of a project eg environmental/conservation/regeneration etc, it is helpful to indicate this in the first paragraph of the entry description, and include information on these aspects in the submission.
Organisations may enter as many different projects as they wish. However each entry attracts an entry fee. BCIA 2010 Supporters and Sponsors are not required to pay any entry fees.
It is not possible to nominate a project only for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award. All UK entries made in any of the BCIA categories, and which are short listed by the judges, will automatically be considered for the Prime Minister's Award, irrespective of size or type, so long as they are publicly funded and fulfil the PM Award criteria. However, entrants are invited to indicate on the entry form if they believe their project qualifies for the Prime Minister's Award.
It is also not possible to enter for the Judges' Special Award. This Award is made by the judges following their visits to short listed schemes, to a project which proved to be particularly inspirational in one or more ways.
Please remember to submit your entry and supporting materials in a folder but 'unbound'. The 900 words entry text should be printed on separate sheets of paper (i.e. not printed both sides). This will greatly assist speedy distribution of the entries to the judges.
Please check carefully that you have included the following with your entry:
- The completed entry form (Please tick all the category boxes for which you wish your entry to be considered. You may tick as many boxes as you wish, so long as the entry qualifies. There is no extra fee for ticking extra boxes.
- The fee for each entry (£100) unless yours is a Supporting company or a Sponsor, for which there is no entry fee
- Your entry description of up to 900 words printed on single sides of paper (i.e. not printed both sides)
- Optionally up to six drawings and/or layout plans if relevant
- Three copies of up to six photographic prints (not transparencies) of the project, captioned on the reverse (maximum size 10 x 8 inches) or up to six good quality images (300 dpi) on a PC readable CD, labelled with the project name, and accompanied by captioned printouts of the images
- Since images may be required for publication, colour print-outs of images without the original on CD are not of sufficient quality
- The requirement for agreement by the commissioning authority, designer and principal contractor to the submission of the entry is acceptable in email form
